“With every step I take, I keep expecting Niamh to be right next to me, just as she always has been,” shared an emotional Aubrey Lewis, a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Tears visibly streaked her face as she spoke.

“Deslyn had this amazing aura of self-assurance that you couldn’t help but admire. She had a knack for setting her sights on a goal and achieving it with what seemed like effortless precision,” reminisced another close friend, capturing the essence of Deslyn’s remarkable character.

The lives of these promising seniors were abruptly cut short when a speeding BMW, driven by 22-year-old Fraser Michael Bohm, collided with parked cars along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The impact of the crash was so severe that it led to the parked vehicles hitting the four young women as they stood beside the road. The accident occurred approximately four miles east of Pepperdine’s scenic campus on the fateful Monday night.

Fraser Michael Bohm, a Malibu resident, was subsequently arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. However, he was released the next day as investigations continue, according to a statement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

During the heart-wrenching memorial, Asha’s mother, Vinita Weir, took a moment to discuss the significance behind her daughter’s name. “Asha means ‘hope,’ and that’s precisely what she gave us all,” she noted. “She had an extraordinary capacity to love, as if she knew that each moment could be her last. She was all in, always, giving 100% of herself to everyone she met.”

In a touching gesture, Pepperdine University announced that all four young women would be posthumously awarded their degrees. Additionally, discussions are underway for establishing a permanent memorial to eternally honor their memories.

This service not only offered a space for collective grieving but also served as a poignant reminder of the bright lives and immense potential that were so cruelly taken away.
