Heartbroken Dog Mom Dumped At Shelter Reunites With Her Babies
There is nothing like maternal love, even among our furry friends.
Just like humans, animals also experience deep and emotional connections with their young ones, and if separated too soon, they will grieve and feel lost.
This is what happened to a mama dog who was surrendered to a shelter, away from her beloved babies. She was heartbroken and depressed, but hope was still in sight.
With the help of kind people from the shelter, she was able to reunite with her babies.
Surrendered After Having Babies
In March 2016, two extremely frightened dogs were surrendered to the Marin Humane Society in Novato, California.
Upon examining the female dog, the staff learned she recently had puppies. During her stay at the shelter, the dog, named Cora, was unresponsive and couldn’t move from one corner of the kennel.
Cora missed her puppies as she was unjustly separated from them. Unable to look at her so sad and scared, the staff decided to try to find her babies.
“After some detective work and a lot of convincing, our team was able to get the person who surrendered the dogs to also surrender the puppies, as they still needed their momma and were not in a safe situation,” the shelter wrote in their Facebook post.
As soon as little Cora – believed to be a Chihuahua mix – saw one of her puppies, she finally moved away from the corner and came running to her puppies.
She didn’t stop searching till all of her four babies were right next to her, almost as if she was counting them. After many hours of being depressed and sad, her tail was finally wagging again and she was finally trusting the staff as well.
When the staff member gave her babies back, Cora even came to thank her by jumping into her lap.
Take a look at the heartwarming moment when this sad and scared mom gets to see her puppies again. Beware, tears of joy.
A Happy Reunion
The video has touched a lot of hearts around the world, and after receiving many inquiries and words of support, the shelter decided to post an update.
“Momma and puppies are doing really well and since Mom was named Cora, we decided to name the puppies after Downton Abbey characters! Her three boys are Carson, Moseley and Branson and her girl is Edith. All will be available for adoption in a few weeks,” they wrote.
Cora and her puppies first went to a safe and quiet foster home where they were showered with love and attention.
After a couple of weeks, all of them were ready for adoption. The puppies were all grown up, weaned off, and desensitized.
It didn’t take long for the puppies and their mother to find a forever home – after all, they had won the hearts of many people.
“All of the puppies (and their mother!) have found their forever homes,” the shelter wrote in their update.
Cora found a forever home with Jen, from Alameda, California. “Little Cora has no idea how famous she became but she does know that she’s in loving arms,” the shelter said.
