Rescuer Finds A Dog Family In An Abandoned House And Is Surprised By How Many There Were
Sometimes, it’s really hard to believe that magic doesn’t exist. It’s especially hard to believe this when little adorable pups start appearing from nowhere after you thought you saved all of them.
In today’s story, Donna really had the honor to watch the cutest magic trick ever.
A Pleasant Surprise
As soon as Donna Lochmann, chief lifesaving officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, got a call about a dog in need, she was on her way.
She was contacted about a dog who was left in the basement of an abandoned house all alone, or so she thought. As soon as she got out of her car, she heard multiple baby pups crying. At first, she didn’t believe her ears, but her eyes assured her that she was right!
Lochmann used the cries as a guide, leading her to the basement where she found three adorable and scared puppies not older than 6 weeks.
When Lochmann was carefully bringing the puppies to her car to drive them somewhere safer, she heard barking from the other part of the house. She thought that must be the mother so, not wanting to separate them from her babies, she set a trap to capture her.
Unfortunately, the mama got scared of the trap and ran off.
We never want to leave Mom behind. So, I went back a few more times hoping that she would still be in that area, said Lochmann.
Looking For Mama
The first two times she went back to the house, she had no luck finding the mama there. However, on her third visit, she heard some familiar barking coming from inside the house. The third time really is the charm.
When she got into the house to get the mom, while climbing up the stairs, she heard a little bark. Turning around, she saw a fourth little pup looking at her, wondering why he was left behind.
Lochmann was very shocked as to how the pup got into the basement when she thoroughly checked it the last time and made sure she took all of the puppies.
She went to investigate, and discovered that there was a large hole in the floorboards above the basement and the puppies were falling through it.
When she finally reached the first floor, Lochmann found four more puppies, resulting in a total of eight.
She brought the newly-found puppies to the car and went back into the house, determined to bring the mom this time as well.
Lochmann cleverly set up the trap inside of the house this time, and since the mom’s guard was down, she managed to get her trapped.
New Beginning
The mama dog, now named Windy Day, was reunited with her pups and, together, they were brought to the shelter for some well-deserved care.
Those three pups, which were found first, went into foster care with Lochmann. The remaining puppies found a forever home shortly after.
Windy Day is still waiting for the perfect family who will love and adore her just like she deserves.
Final Word
Considering that only 27% of bigger dogs get to be adopted from the foster care system, we have our fingers crossed that Windy Day will get to be one of them.
I would like to give a big thank you to Donna Lochmann for her incredible bravery, continuously risking her life to save the paws in need.
