Sage A. Woodward Car Accident
The tranquility of an early Tuesday morning was shattered by the devastating news of a fiery crash on Interstate 495 in Plainville, Massachusetts. The victim, later identified as Sage A. Woodward, a 23-year-old from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, met a tragic end in what appeared to be a severe vehicular accident.
State Police detailed a harrowing scene where Woodward was discovered partially ejected from the passenger’s seat of a BMW sedan, lying face-down in the water-filled median of the highway near mile marker 35.2. Disturbingly, flames engulfed the driver’s side of the vehicle.
In a valiant effort to save the young man, two state troopers, assisted by two good Samaritans, managed to extract Woodward from the wreckage and bring him to safety up the embankment. Despite the swift response, including immediate CPR administered by the troopers followed by paramedics on the scene, Woodward’s injuries proved fatal. He was subsequently rushed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the tragic sequence of events may have been initiated when Woodward’s BMW collided with a guardrail on the right side of I-495. The impact is believed to have propelled the car across the highway, eventually coming to a rest in the median. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
While the loss of Sage A. Woodward is deeply felt by all, it is worth noting the brave response of the officers and bystanders. One officer sustained a hand injury during the rescue efforts and received medical attention.
As the community grapples with this loss, our thoughts go out to Woodward’s family and friends during this challenging time.
