Shalom Peters Car Accident
Tragedy struck early Tuesday morning when Morton Grove resident Shalom Peters, 37, lost his life in a single-vehicle collision on Oakton Street, Park Ridge. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced him dead at the crash site.
Shalom resided in the 9300 block of Oriole Avenue. The mishap, which took place in the 1000 block of Oakton, near the Niles border, resulted in his vehicle crashing into a house located at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Oakton.
While the house didn’t seem to sustain significant visible damage, a nearby utility pole was evidently affected, showing signs of severe damage and instability. This drew the attention of a substantial ComEd team, standing by as the police recreated the incident for their investigation.
Park Ridge police confirmed that the accident only involved Peters’ vehicle. Due to the ongoing investigation, especially during Tuesday’s morning rush hour, Oakton Street between Greenwood and Cumberland was cordoned off. The Park Ridge police department and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) Major Crash Assistance Team led the inquiry, which began shortly after the crash was reported at 2:38 a.m.
Authorities anticipated the area would remain inaccessible for several hours, urging commuters and residents to find alternative routes or exercise patience.
