A celebration of life for Ray Spornhauer, affectionately known as “Mr. Ray,” will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. Cremation will follow, overseen by the dedicated staff of the funeral home.

Born on April 13, 1959, in Wilmington, Ohio, to the late Gloria Fay Moore and Raymond Frederick Spornhauer, Mr. Ray passed away on August 30, 2023, at a local hospital.

A proud alumnus of Eastern High School in Ohio, Class of ’77, he later pursued higher education at Raymond Walters College. Mr. Ray was not just an entrepreneur but a cornerstone of the community. For three decades, he was the driving force behind Golden Corral in Lufkin, and just six years ago, he brought to life another venture—Mr. Ray’s Food Court. Beyond his work, he cherished bass fishing, worldly adventures with his loving wife, enriching conversations with his patrons, and quality moments spent with his children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 40 years, Rosa Spornhauer (née Balderrama); their children Christina Frias (married to Arnulfo Jr.), Michael Spornhauer, Raymond Spornhauer, Melissa Spornhauer, and Nancy Jacob; seven grandchildren; as well as an extensive family that includes six brothers, two sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, John Spornhauer.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Hospital and Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care, along with a special mention to Dr. Venkata Kovvali of The Heart Institute of East Texas.
